Mr. Ron Shamir is an expert in cyber security and critical information infrastructure defense. He served for 23 years in relevant senior capacities in the Israel Security Agency (ISA), achieving a rank of Major General.
Mr. Shamir served as the Head of the Technology Division, which is comprised of hundreds of engineers. In this role, he was responsible for devising and implementing the technological strategy and solutions for the ISA, managing R&D and manufacturing processes in a wide range of disciplines including electronic engineering, software engineering and cyber
security, among others.
Prior to this, he served as the Head of Department and Deputy Director of the IT Division in the ISA responsible for developing and managing the ISA IT work plan, the development methodology for IT systems and the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP).
Mr. Shamir constructed the first cyber department within the ISA and then served at its helm. In this capacity, he was tasked with building the entire cyber-ecosystem including leading the development of cyber tools and cyber operations capabilities.
Mr. Shamir also served as the Head of the Software Development Branch where he managed an R&D team of roughly 30 engineers and led numerous large-scale projects on topics relevant for intelligence information systems.
Mr. Shamir served for five years in the Israel Defense Force (IDF), achieving the rank of Major. In his final position, he served as a Commander in the Armored Force.
Mr. Shamir holds a B.Sc. from Tel Aviv University in Israel. He also successfully completed a seminar for Corporate Officeholders and holds an Executive MBA, Magna Cum Laude, from Tel Aviv University. He also published an article in conjunction with Eli Bahar titled Defending Israel’s Elections from Cyber Attack – what should be done? for the Federmann Cyber Security Center, Cyber Law Program in 2019.
Today, Mr. Shamir serves as a Research Associate at the Federmann Cyber Security Research Center at Hebrew University in Jerusalem and instructs a course titled ‘Law and Cyber’ at the Tel Aviv University Law School. He is also a mentor at the TechStarts Tel Aviv Accelerators, a global program which provides customized programming for early-state entrepreneurs.
Since retiring from a distinguished ISA career, Mr. Shamir has served in the capacities of Consultant and Board Member of a number of cyber and IT related entities and start-ups.
