On January 30, 2017 Nadeem Muhammed, a 43-year-old businessman born in Pakistan and carrying an Italian passport, attempted to board a Ryanair Boeing 737 flight from Manchester Airport in the UK to Bergamo, Italy carrying a ‘crude improvised explosive device’ made up masking tape, batteries, the tube of a marker pen and wires and concealed inside the zip lining of his suitcase. Despite claiming that ‘there are strange things people carry in their bags but I’d not seen anything like that before,’ the security terminal manager placed the item in her pocket.
